Product Information

  • Delivers pear-shaped tubers
  • Offers creamy yellow flesh of first class flavour
  • Adapts well to multiple culinary uses

A hugely popular second early salad variety, 'Charlotte' potatoes produce distinctive pear-shaped, yellow-skinned tubers. Enjoy their waxy texture and creamy yellow flesh, boasting a first-class flavour whether served hot or cold. Frequently found in supermarkets, this variety also holds an RHS AGM.
For an organic crop, these 'Charlotte' potatoes have Organic Certification approved by The Soil Association. Plant your second early potato crops from March onwards. Encourage sprouting by 'chitting' the seed potatoes in a cool, bright spot (around 10°C / 50°F) before planting.
When growing in the ground, avoid planting in areas where potatoes have grown for the past two years to minimise disease risk. Choose a sheltered, sunny spot with moist, well-drained soil, enriched with plenty of well-rotted manure. Plant in rows, spacing potatoes 37cm (15") apart, with 75cm (2'6") between rows. Place seed potatoes in 10cm (4") deep trenches and cover with soil.
As shoots reach 20cm (8"), mound soil around them, leaving just a few centimetres visible. Repeat this process after another 3 weeks. If space is limited, consider growing in potato bags on the patio. Fill an 8-litre potato bag almost to the top with good quality compost mixed with well-rotted manure. Plant a single chitted potato, shoots upwards, at a depth of 12cm (5"). Place bags in a sunny location and water regularly to keep the compost moist.
Keep rows weeded and plants well-watered throughout the growing season. Protect from frost by drawing soil around the stems or moving potato bags to a frost-free area like a shed or greenhouse. Harvest second early crops approximately 13 weeks after planting, when the foliage begins to yellow and die back.
Ideal for patios and kitchen gardens. Tender. Position in full sun.
