The Californian Lilac, or Ceanothus, bursts into life with an abundance of powder blue flowers across the shrub, creating a striking, blue spectacle from afar. Plant in moist, well-drained soil, in a sunny location, sheltered from harsh winds. This versatile plant can be grown as a standalone shrub or trained against a wall or fence. Each spring, prune the stems that flowered the previous year, cutting back to within two or three buds of the woody structure. The Californian Lilac has been awarded the RHS Award of Garden Merit.
