Once Trumpet Vine plants are established in the border, they will prove to be drought-resistant. After planting your Campsis, cut back all stems to 15cm (6 inch) from the ground to stimulate new growth. Train the strongest new shoots, and remove weaker shoots. After 2 or 3 years, a framework will be established, and you should prune back side shoots to within 2 or 3 shoots of the main stems. Prune in late winter.
