A truly versatile plant, Buxus sempervirens is a popular choice for adding structure to any garden. This evergreen shrub has dense, small foliage that's easy to clip into shape, making it ideal for topiary. Well-loved for its ability to withstand regular clipping, these Box plants are slow-growing but provide low-maintenance structure all year round.
These established plants are supplied ready-clipped into neat balls, allowing you to enjoy instant structure without the fuss. Buxus balls look great in mixed borders amongst relaxed flowers, contemporary gardens, or formal settings. Alternatively, plant them in patio containers for easy, year-round interest on the patio. Please note: decorative pots are not included.
Grow Box plants in any fertile, moist, well-drained garden soil, or in soil-based compost such as John Innes No.3 in containers. Choose a position in full sun or partial shade. In drier soils, Buxus sempervirens will prefer a semi-shaded spot. Improve poor, dry soils by incorporating plenty of well-rotted manure prior to planting. Water well until fully established.
Box plants are relatively low maintenance but require trimming once a year in mid-summer to maintain their neat shape. Choose an overcast day to avoid sun scorch. Feed and mulch after pruning to promote healthy new growth. Caution: may cause irritation to skin and eyes.
