Appreciated for its ability to withstand regular trimming, Box plants offer low-maintenance structure to gardens throughout the year. While slow-growing Buxus sempervirens can take years to form a topiary shape, this plant arrives established and neatly clipped into a ball, providing instant structure without the effort. It also comes complete with patio containers for easy, year-round patio interest.
Grow Box plants in any fertile, moist, well-drained garden soil, or use soil-based compost such as John Innes No.3 in containers. Choose a spot in sun or partial shade; on drier soils, Buxus sempervirens prefers partial shade. Improve poor, dry soils by incorporating well-rotted manure prior to planting. Water Box plants thoroughly until established.
Box plants need minimal upkeep but require annual trimming in mid-summer to maintain their shape. Select an overcast day to prevent sun scorch. Feed and mulch Buxus sempervirens after pruning to encourage healthy new growth.
