- Sweet stems perfect raw or cooked
- Produces 3-4 harvests per plant
- Grows well in full sun or semi-shade
Now you can cultivate your own high-value, delicious Calabrese-type broccoli, usually fetching a premium in supermarkets, and enjoy it fresh from your garden. Broccoli 'Sibsey' is a superb, sweet stem variety, resembling Cima di Rapa (Wild Broccoli). Its uniquely tasty and tender stems are so sweet, they can even be eaten raw! Alternatively, steam or lightly boil them to preserve their healthy vitamins.
For best flavour, grow this productive broccoli in full sun, where the sunlight enhances the developing shoots. Expect 3 to 4 harvests per plant. When growing sprouting broccoli, select a sheltered spot with firm, rich, fertile, well-drained soil, in full sun or partial shade. Prepare the soil in early spring by incorporating plenty of well-rotted farmyard manure to improve its structure and fertility.
Plant sprouting broccoli deeply for stability, spacing plants 60cm (24in) apart, and protect them with netting or fleece to prevent bird and insect attacks. Water plants thoroughly after planting.
