Product Information

  • Produces crisp, sweet berries late in summer
  • Serves as attractive shrubs for patio or acidic borders
  • Grows and spreads up to 1.8m when fully established

Brigitta' is a late-season blueberry variety known for its bountiful yield of large, light blue fruits. Ripening towards the end of August, these firm, tasty berries boast a delightful crispness, making them ideal for both fresh consumption and freezing.
This variety thrives when planted alongside other blueberry types to ensure proper cross-pollination, as it is not reliably self-fertile. Beyond its delicious fruit, 'Brigitta' makes an attractive shrub for patios or acidic borders. In spring, expect a profusion of sweetly scented, creamy white flowers, followed by a display of fiery crimson foliage in autumn.
Blueberries are celebrated for their health benefits and culinary versatility, lending themselves beautifully to pies, muffins, and jams. To cultivate successfully, plant in well-drained, acidic soil in a sunny or partially shaded location. In areas lacking naturally acidic soil, grow in patio containers with ericaceous compost and John Innes No. 3. Rainwater is preferable for watering, as tap water's lime content can reduce soil acidity over time.
Fruiting typically begins in the third year. Protect developing berries from birds with netting. From the third year onwards, prune the oldest stems each autumn to encourage new growth and maintain a healthy plant structure. The fruit of 'Brigitta' are particularly well-suited for freezing.
