Product Information

  • Late-season, large light blue berries
  • Needs cross-pollination for best crop
  • Great for freezing and fresh eating

A late-season gem, Blueberry 'Brigitta' yields abundant, light blue fruits on strong, upright bushes, ripening towards the end of August. These firm, delicious berries boast a crisp texture, making them ideal for freezing or enjoying fresh from the bush. For optimal fruit production, plant with other blueberry varieties, as 'Brigitta' benefits from cross-pollination. It is not reliably self-fertile, requiring cross pollination for a good crop.
Blueberry bushes are not only fruitful but also ornamental. They make attractive shrubs for patios or acidic borders, displaying masses of sweetly scented, creamy white flowers in spring, followed by fiery crimson foliage in autumn. Blueberries are packed with health-boosting compounds and are particularly delightful in pies, muffins and jams.
For best results, plant in well-drained, acidic soil in a sunny or semi-shaded spot. In areas lacking naturally acidic soil, grow blueberry plants in patio containers using ericaceous compost mixed with John Innes No. 3. Water with rainwater whenever possible, as tap water's lime content can reduce soil acidity over time.
Expect fruit production to begin in the third year. Protect developing berries from birds with netting. From the third year onwards, prune out the oldest stems each autumn to encourage new growth and maintain a healthy plant structure. The fruit of Blueberry 'Brigitta' is especially well-suited for freezing.

Height: Up to 1.8m when fully established.
