In areas lacking naturally acidic soil, cultivate your blueberry plants in containers filled with ericaceous compost mixed with John Innes No.3. Whenever possible, use rainwater for watering, as tap water's lime content can gradually reduce soil acidity. Expect your blueberries to begin fruiting from their third year onwards. Protect the developing berries from birds by covering the plants with netting.
From the third year, prune the oldest stems each autumn to encourage fresh growth and maintain a healthy plant structure.
