Thompson & Morgan Blackberry Rubus Opal Plant in Pot 9cm

The Blackberry ‘Opal’ is a superb choice for gardens of all sizes, particularly where space is at a premium, or for growing in patio containers. Reaching a compact height and spread of just 90cm, this upright, easy-to-grow bush is a reliable cropper, producing an abundant harvest of delicious blackberries from late summer through autumn. The berries themselves are full of flavour, perfect for eating fresh, or for making into delectable puddings and jams. What's more, the thornless stems ensure easy picking.
Like all blackberries, ‘Opal’ is a magnet for wildlife, its delicate white flowers appearing in early summer, attracting bees and other beneficial pollinators, and only taking up a fraction of the space of a traditional cultivar. Plant your blackberry ‘Opal’ in containers filled with good quality, well-drained compost, such as John Innes No. 2. Position in a sunny location and water well. Feed and water regularly throughout the growing season. As the fruits begin to develop, cover plants with netting to protect them from birds.
Harvest blackberries from August onwards. In autumn, prune the canes that have fruited over the summer down to ground level, leaving canes that have not fruited intact.
