Thompson and Morgan Bean Runner Polestar Plant Packet

For a bountiful harvest of your own runner beans, sow indoors from mid-April or directly outdoors from late May to July. When starting indoors, sow seeds 5cm (2") deep in 7.5cm (3") pots or trays filled with free-draining seed sowing compost. Maintain a temperature of 18-20°C (64-68°F) using a propagator or sealed container within a plastic bag until germination, which typically takes 7-10 days.
Once germinated, cultivate in cooler conditions until the risk of frost has passed and plants are robust enough for transplanting. Acclimatise gradually to outdoor conditions over 7-10 days before planting in a sunny or semi-shaded location with rich, fertile, well-drained soil, sheltered from strong winds. Mulch generously with organic matter to conserve moisture and suppress weeds. Water regularly, especially during flowering, and apply liquid feed every 14 days during mid-summer.
Harvest your runner beans from July onwards.
