A charming dwarf variety, ideal for edging pathways or brightening up the front of borders. These delightful snapdragons showcase a kaleidoscope of vibrant hues, including yellows, pinks, oranges and purples. The double blooms bear a striking resemblance to those of the ‘Madame Butterfly’ variety.
While the flowers can be used as colourful garnishes or dressings, be aware that they may occasionally possess a bland or slightly bitter flavour.
To cultivate, begin by potting in free-draining compost and nurture in frost-free conditions until sufficiently robust for outdoor planting. Encourage a bushier habit by pinching out the growing tips while the plants are still young.
Acclimatise the antirrhinum plants to outdoor conditions over a period of seven to ten days. Plant outdoors in a sheltered, sunny location with fertile, free-draining soil. Antirrhinums dislike waterlogged conditions, so improve heavy soils with the addition of coarse grit or sharp sand prior to planting.
Water and feed regularly until fully established. Deadhead spent flowers frequently to encourage a profusion of blooms throughout the summer months.
