Bring a splash of vivid colour to your garden with ‘Summer Rose’ alstroemeria, producing deep pink blooms on tall stems from May right through to November so you’ll enjoy months of floral beauty whether planted in borders or containers. Each year these plants become more vigorous and floriferous, creating a fuller display and offering stems perfect for cutting and arranging indoors. Supplied as three jumbo plug plants, they thrive in sun or semi-shade and suit a range of garden settings, blending beautifully with other perennials. When all risk of frost has passed, plant Peruvian Lilies in a sunny or semi-shaded position in fertile, moist, well-drained soil. Alternatively, plant Alstroemeria in patio containers in soil-based compost such as John Innes No. 3. These tall plants will appreciate a support to protect their tall stems. Insert the support into the ground prior to planting and tie the stems in with soft twine throughout the growing season. Throughout the growing season, water Peruvian lilies regularly and feed container-grown plants each month. When picking Alstroemeria, pluck the flowers rather than cutting, as plucking stimulates the rhizome to encourage further growth. In autumn, cut back the old Alstroemeria flower stems and apply a dry mulch of chipped bark or straw to the base of the plant to protect it from cold winter weather. Alstroemeria prefers to be left undisturbed but can be divided in autumn or spring if clumps become overcrowded. Caution: irritant to skin and eyes.
