Bring some greenery into your home with this lovely Aloe Vera plant, widely admired as an ornamental piece and a wonderful houseplant. Its thick, fleshy, green to grey-green leaves allow it to thrive in areas with minimal natural rainfall, making it perfect for rockeries and low-water gardens. Modern gardeners appreciate it for its medicinal properties, as it effectively reduces inflammation and soothes pain from grazes, insect bites, and sunburn. Simply cut a leaf from the base to access the gel-like sap inside, and apply it to your skin.
Like most succulents, Aloe Vera is sensitive to heavy frost and snow, so it's best kept indoors or in heated glasshouses during the winter. Repot as necessary and nurture indoors in bright, indirect light and well-ventilated conditions. Ensure the pot has good drainage, as this plant dislikes overly wet soil. Water and allow the soil to dry out between waterings – water moderately during the growing season and sparingly during the dormant winter months. While excellent as indoor succulents, aloe vera plants can also be moved outdoors during the summer.
