How to grow: Grow Agapanthus plants in rich, fertile, well-drained soil, in a sunny position. When growing Agapanthus in patio containers, use a soil-based compost. Feed and water African Lilies regularly throughout the growing season. Leave faded Agapanthus flower stems intact to enjoy their architectural seed heads during autumn. When the first frost blackens the seed heads, cut the stems back to ground level. Protect plants outdoors from severe winter weather by providing a dry mulch of bark chips or straw in late autumn. Container-grown plants can be moved to a frost-free position over winter. Divide agapanthus clumps in spring when they become overcrowded.
