- Hardy kiwi with sweet, peelable fruits
- Vigorous vines ideal for trellises
- Produces abundant crops in UK gardens
Discover the delights of hardy kiwi varieties ‘Geneva’ and Kiwi arguta, perfect for UK gardens. Kiwi ‘Geneva’ is known for its vigorous growth and early fruiting habit. Expect an abundance of 2.5cm (1-inch) fruits each year, ripening to a delicious honey flavour, ideal for eating fresh or adding to culinary creations. Developing a reddish bloom in full sun, these fruits are ready to harvest from September to October, providing a sweet autumn treat from your own garden.
For a hardy kiwi option, Kiwi arguta is ideal. Surviving temperatures as low as -15 degrees Celsius, these vines produce small, smooth, exceptionally sweet fruits that require no peeling. They thrive in sunny, well-drained locations and, once established, can yield up to 13kg of fruit. With their twining growth habit and creamy-white summer flowers, Kiwi arguta vines are not only productive but also make stunning additions to trellises or south-facing walls.
How to grow: Plant in a sunny, preferably south-facing, location. Fully hardy, tolerating temperatures down to -15 degrees Celsius. Keep soil consistently moist, especially during fruit development. Incorporate well-rotted manure or compost before planting and feed annually with a balanced fertiliser. Requires moderate humidity; ensure good air circulation around the vines.
