- Vibrant summer blooms in mixed colours
- Attracts bees and butterflies
- Easy-care, garden-ready plants
Bring a splash of pastel hues to your garden with Achillea, creating a vibrant display throughout summer. This hardy perennial, with its sweet-scented foliage and flat flower heads, is perfect for cottage gardens and fresh-cut arrangements. A favourite of bees, butterflies, and other pollinators, Achillea is low maintenance and reaches a height and spread of 60cm (24in).
Beyond its beauty, Achillea offers culinary uses; the leaves can be eaten cooked or raw, adding a bitter flavour to mixed salads, especially when young. They also serve as a preservative or flavouring for beer, while both flowers and leaves can be steeped for aromatic tea.
Plant Achillea in well-drained soil and full sun, avoiding wet conditions, particularly in winter. Improve heavy soil by adding coarse grit or sharp sand before planting. Once established, Yarrow is reasonably drought-tolerant and requires minimal upkeep. In summer, support the tall flower stems with garden canes to prevent drooping. Leave the faded flower heads intact for an attractive autumn seed head display, then cut the stems back to ground level after the first frosts. Divide overcrowded clumps of Yarrow in spring.
Please note, Achillea can irritate the skin and eyes. Images are for guidance only and show expected results upon maturity, which may vary based on growing conditions. Images may illustrate supply and can change due to seasonal variations, such as deciduous plants losing leaves in colder months.
