The Abutilon megapotamicum is a charming shrub notable for its delicate, arching branches and distinctive lantern-like flowers. Despite its exotic looks, Abutilon megapotamicum is surprisingly resilient, flourishing outdoors in milder, coastal areas. For best results, plant against a warm, south-facing wall, training the branches for an elegant display. Alternatively, it can be grown in a patio container and moved indoors to a greenhouse or conservatory over winter, ensuring you can enjoy its beautiful foliage and flowers all year round.
Grow in full sun to partial shade. It is hardy to around -10 degrees Celsius, making it suitable for coastal and southern regions. Keep the soil consistently moist, watering regularly during dry periods. Feed with a balanced fertiliser in spring to encourage healthy growth and abundant flowering. It prefers moderate humidity; mist occasionally if kept indoors.
