The typical green foliage offers seasonal surprises, from the delicate pale pink blossoms adorning the shrub in spring to the vibrant colour transformations of the leaves in autumn. A dependable and hardy shrub, ideal for your patio or wildlife garden, and adored by pollinators.
Blueberries thrive in well-drained, acidic soil in a sunny or partially shaded location. In areas lacking naturally acidic soil, cultivate blueberry plants in patio containers using a blend of ericaceous compost and a loam based compost. Rainwater is preferable for watering blueberries, as the lime in tap water can gradually reduce soil acidity.
Blueberries typically begin fruiting in their third year. As fruits develop, protect them from birds by covering the plants with netting. From the third year onwards, prune out the oldest stems each autumn to encourage new growth and maintain a healthy plant structure.
