How To Create A Desk With A Clever Cube

What you’ll need:

You can create a smart, stylish study space using a Clever cube storage unit and Rust-Oleum furniture paints. Use our guide to inspire you and get creative – there are so many different styles and colours you could use, let your imagination run free.

  1. Step 1. Paint landscape

Take your chosen shade of Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Furniture Paint (featured is the Chalk White) and stir thoroughly before use. Paint the top, sides and front of the MDF sheet with a roller and leave this to dry. Chalky Finish Furniture Paint is perfect for MDF as there's no need to prime. You may require a second coat.
  2. Step 2. Cut out stencil

To create your stencil, place the sticky back plastic on the cutting mat and begin to cut out your chosen pattern using a Stanley knife. We have picked a terrazzo design here. If needed, print out a picture of your design and use this as a guide.
  3. Step 3. Apply stencil

Stick your stencil to the MDF, ensuring it's secure. Paint the design with as many or as few shades of Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Furniture Paint as you want (we used three, Ink Blue, Belgrave and Duck Egg). Once dry, protect and seal the paint with Rust-Oleum Furniture Finishing Lacquer spray.
  4. Step 4. Paint cube

Personalise the Clever Cube to match your project. We painted the top two sections of the cube and the wall brackets with Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Furniture Paint Belgrave. We also attached hooks for additional compact organisation!
  5. Step 5. Attach brackets

Using a drill and screws, attach the brackets to the wall and secure your painted table top in place.
