Can you put cling film in the oven?

No, you should not put cling film in the oven.

Cling film is a type of plastic that can melt when exposed to heat. If you put cling film in the oven and it melts you can end up with plastic particulates in food making it inedible.

Can you put plates in the oven?

If your plates and crockery have an 'oven safe' label, you can put them in the oven.

Putting plates in the oven is a good way to warm them up ahead of serving food. Just be careful when removing crockery from the oven and use oven gloves to protect your hands.

Can tin foil go in the oven?

Yes, it is perfectly safe to put tin foil in the oven.

Sometimes wrapping or covering food in tin foil before placing it in the oven can help speed up the cooking process. This can also help the infusion of flavours if you use foil to wrap up seasonings and marinades.

What is a pyrolytic oven?

A pyrolytic oven is a self-cleaning oven. Most pyrolytic ovens are electric and they work by warming up to more than 400°, causing grime and food residue to be turned into ash. Once the cleaning cycle is over and the oven has cooled, ash residue can be easily wiped away. The heat from a pyrolytic oven will also kill any bacteria and germs.

Remember to keep tea towels away from pyrolytic oven while they are running and always be careful when you are wiping away ash, as parts of the oven may still be warm.

How much electricity does a fan oven use?

Generally, a fan oven uses less energy than standard electric ovens.

The specific electricity usage of your fan oven can be found on its energy efficiency label. Simply multiply the kilowatt hours (kWh) by the number of hours you use your fan oven to determine exactly how much electricity you are using.

How often should you clean your oven?

We recommend cleaning your kitchen oven every two-to-three months.

If you have a pyrolytic oven, we recommend running a cleaning cycle every other month, especially if you regularly use your oven.

While deep cleaning your oven can seem like a daunting process, if you wipe away spillages as soon as they happen you may find cleaning quicker and easier.

Can you put silicone in the oven?

Silicone bakeware, like sheets and cake moulds, can be put in the oven. Cook-safe silicone can also be put in dishwashers, freezers and microwaves as it is designed to tolerate a range of temperatures.

Remember when facing hot temperatures, for example in the oven or microwave, silicone can become less ridged and might be floppier when transferring.
