Disinfecting our homes is important in helping us stop the spread of potentially harmful viruses and bacteria, and many of us have become far more aware of how easily germs can be spread in recent months. High traffic areas are the places and items that are commonly touched by multiple household members every day. Therefore, these are the prime suspects when it comes to the potential transfer of germs from person to person. Sarah Fozzard, Head of Home Hygiene at Zoflora says, “By disinfecting your home with Zoflora, you can be confident it will eliminate viruses and bacteria, whilst leaving your home hygienically clean and beautifully fragrant.”
To help with your cleaning and disinfecting routine, Zoflora has put together some tips about how often you should disinfect certain areas of your home.
-
Daily Disinfectants
Some areas of the home are used multiple times every day, and therefore require regular disinfection to keep them free from viruses and bacteria. These include;
- Bathroom Sinks and taps
- Kitchen worktops
- Cloths and sponges
- Light switches
- Door handles
- Kitchen table
Sarah says, “Taps can harbour over 6,000 bacteria per square inch! Your sink may also be home to over 2,700 bacteria per square inch, so these items need a quick once over with your favourite disinfectant every day.”
For a daily clean, dilute 1 capful of your favourite Zoflora to every 400ml of water in your sink, a trigger spray bottle or a bowl, then use a cloth to wipe over surfaces with the diluted Zoflora. For effective disinfection, a 5 minute surface contact time is required. -
Weekly once-overs
Some areas of the home only need a weekly once-over to keep them hygienically clean and odour-free. For many of us, particularly if you have pets, our floors need to be vacuumed and mopped at least once a week.
Sarah suggests diluting Zoflora with water in a mop bucket to disinfect hard floors, eliminate odours and leave them smelling beautiful for up to 24 hours. It is important to remember to keep pets and children away from the area until floors are completely dry.Other germ hotspots to wipe down on a weekly basis include;
- Wipeable furniture such as chairs, coffee tables and bedside tables
- The remote control*
- Laptop, mouse and keyboard*
- Mobile phones*
- Desks
- Cupboard doors especially handles
- Bins
- Welcome mats
- Pet beds and litter trays
- Bathrooms including; toilet, sink, shower, bath and any surfaces
*do not spray Zoflora directly onto electronics.

Monthly Jobs
It’s important to be realistic with your cleaning routine, so set yourself achievable expectations. Not many of us are going to clean out our wheelie bins on a daily, or even a weekly basis. However, germs and dirt in these areas do build up over time, so give the following a once over on a monthly basis to keep the job manageable.
- Fridges
- Washing machine
- Car interiors
- Wheelie bins
- Shelves
- Windows
- Shower head
- Radiators and bed throws
