Fitting cabinet doors is an easy job when you follow the steps in this guide. The hinges make it easy to attach your doors and remove them if you want to.
How do I install kitchen cabinet doors?
- Assemble a workbench
- Fix the hinges to the door
- Work out where the mounting plates go
- Attach the mounting plates
- Adjust the door position
What you’ll need:
- A Phillips screwdriver
- Your cabinet door and cabinet
- A workbench (2 workhorses, plywood and cardboard)
- Two quick grip clamps
- Cabinet hinges and their fixings
Step 1. Assemble a workbench
It’s a good idea to use a workbench to make fitting your hinges easier. You can make your own workbench using two work horses with plywood laid across them. Lay a piece of cardboard on top of the bench to avoid any damage as you work.
Step 2. Fix the hinges to the door
Place your door onto your workbench and secure it to the bench using two clamps. Put the hinges into the pre-drilled holes on the side of the door. Use a screwdriver and the screws provided to attach the hinges to the top and bottom of the door.
Step 3. Work out where the mounting plates go
Remove your door from the workbench and hold it up against the cabinet. This can be tricky so it’s a good idea to get someone to help you. When you hold the hinges against the cabinet, you’ll see where the mounting plates attach to the cabinet. Make a mark in the middle of the two pre-drilled holes. This will be covered up by the mounting plate.
Step 4. Attach the mounting plates
Attach the mounting plates to the cabinet using a screwdriver and the screws provided. Refer to the image on the packaging for the correct way round for the plate to sit. Slide the door, with its hinges, onto the mounting plate. Tighten the screws to secure it into position.
Step 5. Adjust the door position
If your doors are not quite aligned, use a Phillips screwdriver to tighten or loosen the screws in the mounting plate and hinges – and move the doors up, down, left or right. Once you’ve moved the door into position, re-tighten the screws.
