- Lilac-blue flowers in short racemes
- Flowers during May and June
- Highly fragrant
A superb selection for sun-drenched walls and fences, the Japanese Wisteria Floribunda Domino showcases fragrant, lilac-blue, pea-like blooms. These appear in short racemes, approximately 20cm in length, throughout May and June. Over the summer, expect an attractive display of pinnate foliage clothing the woody, clockwise-twining stems.
This Wisteria flowers freely from a young age, providing a reliable and showy display. For best results, plant Japanese Wisteria Floribunda Domino in a sunny or semi-shaded location with moist, well-drained soil. As wisteria flower buds are vulnerable to hard spring frosts, choosing a sheltered position is advisable. Enrich the soil with well-rotted manure or garden compost before planting.
Ensure the twining stems have robust support, such as a strong trellis or wires fixed to walls and pergolas. Regular feeding and watering will help it establish. Apply a mulch of well-rotted manure or compost to the plant base in autumn or spring. Prune in July and again in February. During the initial two years, prune to establish a framework of permanent stems, tying in selected lateral shoots to supports and removing unwanted growth. Once the framework is established, continue pruning twice yearly to manage growth within its allotted space.
Ideal for patios, cottage gardens, scented gardens, and as a specimen plant. Hardy. Position in sun or semi-shade. Reaches heights of up to 600cm and spreads up to 300cm.
