- Produces honey scented blooms throughout summer
- Adored by pollinating insects
- Ideal scented climber
Hall's Prolific' Japanese Honeysuckle is a vigorous climber, producing masses of honey-scented flowers that attract pollinators throughout the summer months. This twining Lonicera bears tubular blooms that open pure white, gradually fading to a buttery yellow, followed by glossy black berries. Its twining stems are clothed in dark green foliage, which remains semi-evergreen in milder climates.
This particularly useful climber thrives in most locations, but flourishes in dappled shade, making it perfect for growing through deciduous hedges and trees, providing a showy summer display and a touch of winter colour.
When planting Honeysuckle 'Hall's Prolific', choose a position in sun or semi-shade, ensuring a sturdy support such as trellis or strong wires attached to walls and pergolas. Plant in fertile, moist, free-draining soil, improving poor soils with well-rotted manure or garden compost. If using patio containers, opt for a soil-based compost. Feed and water regularly during the growing season until fully established. Monitor young shoot tips for aphid damage, especially in full sun. Prune immediately after flowering, removing the oldest stems first, then reducing the remaining stems to manage its vigorous growth. In spring, mulch the base of the plant with well-rotted manure or compost.
