Blackcurrants are easy to grow, producing bunches of dark purple berries in mid-summer. Rich in vitamin C they are excellent for puddings, pies, jams and freezing.
Bushes can produce fruit for up to 10 years. The leaves are palmate, with 3-5 lobes which are bluntly toothed. Their upper surface is hairless, the undersides is hairy. The leaves smell strongly of Blackcurrants when crushed. The flowers are small and grow on hanging racemess, called strigs. The plant normally flowers between April and May.
