FAQs
-
Before I order
-
How much will it cost to fit my carpet?
Rates vary dependant on size, area to be quoted for and sometimes the method of installation. As an example, a lounge requiring 5 metres by 4 metres of carpet would carry a labour charge of £75. Our Home Consultant will be able to calculate and notify you of the charge that applies to you during his visit.
-
What happens on my home consultation? And how long will it take?
After introducing himself and providing identification, the Home Consultant will discuss your requirements with you in detail. He will then show you an appropriate range of samples that he feels will meet your needs. Whilst you browse through the choices, he will undertake the measuring and planning of the areas. He will then prepare the quotation and take you through it. The Home Consultant will take as much time as is required, but a general guideline would be between 40 minutes and two hours dependant on complexity.
-
How is my estimate calculated?
The size of the areas, combined with the available width of the product selected defines the quantity of floor covering required and the labour charge. Underlays and door bars are added to the quotation as required. The Home Consultant will provide you with a breakdown of costings whilst on site.
-
How long will it take to deliver and fit my carpet?
This varies dependant on the product selected but will generally be between 2 and 4 weeks. We are able to accept orders for floor coverings and then install them at a later date to suit your needs.
-
Why don't you have products and prices on your web site?
We believe in bringing the flooring to you where you can examine it, touch and feel it in the comfort of your home. We then tailor our selection, delivery and fitting services to your individual needs.
-
Can I order samples?
We don't provide samples because we bring them to your home - and for free, one of our experienced Home Consultants will show you the samples you require in the comfort of your own home.
-
Why should I buy new underlay?
We strongly recommend the purchase of new underlay with any new carpet because it will give the best comfort and performance, and will also prolong the carpet's life. The better the quality of the underlay - the better your carpet will perform.
-
Pattern or plain?
Plains generally make rooms look larger, but subtle patterns generally work better in smaller spaces, whilst bold designs suit larger areas.
-
Wool or synthetic?
Carpets are made from wool or man-made fibres as well as a combination of the two. There are features and advantages with both: Wool can be very soft and has natural properties for pile structure retention - Synthetic fibres can add harder wearing and stain resistant benefits.
-
Is carpet the right choice for my room?
Carpet suits most areas of the home, there are even carpets suitable for bathrooms and kitchens. However, there are also so many more alternatives available today, like Vinyl, Laminate or Real Wood. If in doubt, ask one of our flooring experts to help.
-
How long will it last?
The amount of footfall across your floor is a major consideration and different fibres and blends can be more hardwearing. Again, we'll be happy to advise you on the right choice.

Delivery & fitting
-
Can I fit vinyl myself?
It is always best to have any flooring fitted professionally. With vinyl flooring in particular, one small error can ruin the whole finish. It's very important to prepare the floor that it will be fitted on first and to use a template to cut accurately around awkward shapes like wash basin stands. All fitting by Home Flooring Solutions is automatically guaranteed for 5 years.
-
I would like to have my old carpet removed and disposed, is this something you can do?

-
I will need help removing and re-instating the furniture in my room, is this service available?
This service is available on request at an additional charge
-

Aftercare & problem resolution
-
What happens if my floor is faulty?
Quality checks are carried out both prior and during fitting, but if you think that your new flooring may be faulty, we will come straight out and inspect it. Of course, if the flooring is faulty we will replace it for you free of charge. We also offer a 5 year fitting guarantee along with any manufacturer's guarantees for your peace of mind.
-
It says you offer a 5 year guarantee on fitting, what does this cover?
Any problem associated with the installation; the most common being the re-stretching of carpets soon after installation.
-
Who do I contact if I have a problem with the flooring or fitting?
We have a dedicated customer service team just phone 0845 194 8720
-
What if I decide not to proceed once I have had an estimate?
There is no obligation to accept our quotation; we will retain your floor plans in case you wish to proceed at a later date.
-
What happens if I change my mind after I have placed my order?
If no carpet has been cut by our supplier, we would accept your cancellation without penalty. Once cut, a cancellation fee would have to be applied though any balance of your deposit would be refunded.
-
What happens if I change my mind after the flooring has been fitted?
Our fitter will lay out the carpet in your home and gain your approval prior to cutting the carpet in. Unfortunately, once the carpet has been cut specially and installed in your home, it would command very small value elsewhere.
-
Why is my carpet shedding?
With cut pile carpets, such as twists, a certain amount of loose fibre is trapped during the manufacturing process. This fibre is gradually released with wear and the use of a vacuum cleaner. The phenomenon usually disappears after a few months.
-
My new carpet is lumpy or loose, why is this and what can I do about it?
In some cases, the construction of the backing and/or the temperature that the carpet has been transported and stored in will prevent the carpet from being fully stretched at the initial installation. As the carpet takes on the temperature of your home and becomes suppler with usage, it can expand and become lumpy or loose. Any re-visits required are covered by your 5 year installation guarantee and undertaken at no charge to you.
