Help & advice: Buying guide to Schreiber fitted bedrooms
Buying guide to Schreiber fitted bedrooms
Design your own style with Schreiber fitted bedrooms - choose from loads of looks to help make your bedroom completely you. Create your dream design with the Homebase range of Schreiber fitted bedrooms.

Whatever bedroom you're dreaming of, Schreiber brings it all tastefully and elegantly together. Choose from 12 fabulous styles. Perhaps you'll love the absolute simplicity of Oak Shaker. Or does the traditional grace of Classic Ivory impress you? With Schreiber, Homebase offers fantastic fitted bedrooms designed to be totally you.
Follow our simple five-step guide to help you choose your perfect fitted bedroom furniture.
Step 1 - Measure and plan for your fitted bedroom
It's a wise idea to take time to plan your fitted bedroom and measure up very carefully.
To help you, we've got some graph paper here that will come in very handy for your planning. Just download and print!
And don't forget, we offer a full professional planning and design service in store.
Step 2 - Choose your frame, end and infill panels
Now decide on your universal wardrobe frames, which all come in maple (the desk/dressing table is available in oak or walnut). To complete your unique design you'll be adding doors and drawers and cornices and plinths (see below). All wardrobes come with an internal shelf and rail as standard, as well as a wall fixing bracket.
The new range of bridging units are available in a universal maple carcass in one size. You can colour-match them to your bedroom by using doors, cornices and Decor end panels in either Classic Ivory or Shaker Oak.
We suggest you add a few carcasses together to bridge the gap between two wardrobes over your bed. To complete your bridging unit you'll need: cornice and Decor end panels (just below), doors (Step 3), and handles (Step 4).
Decor end panels and infill panels
For extra stability include two Decor end panels in a finish of your choice. Infill panels can be used to close up gaps around your furniture and they'll give your bedroom that fully fitted finish.
For bridging units, you'll need to order enough Decor end panels to attach to the bottom of your bridging unit carcass. This is to colour-match the base of your unit to their doors and your fitted bedroom.
Drawer sets and end and infill panels come in five different finishes - shown below.

A few things you should know...
- Minimum ceiling height needed to place an assembled wardrobe vertically upright is 2.3m.
- For the combi converters the wardrobe frame/carcass needs to be ordered separately.
- Drawer sets need metal feet (square or round) or a plinth set (see Step 3).
- We strongly advise that a professional fits the bridging units, although they do contain all the fittings and hardware to complete the job yourself.
Step 3 - Choose your door and drawer packs
Now select your wardrobe door fronts. For all your drawer sets, you can choose from seven options. Glass and mirrored ranges are only available for the wardrobes. All drawers and doors are pre-drilled to accept handles (order these separately - see Step 4). Bridging unit doors are available in Shaker Oak and Classic Ivory.
Step 4 - All about wardrobe and bridging unit plinths and cornices
Next choose your cornice, plinth, feet and handles - and then you're close to completing your design!
Wardrobe plinths and cornices
All wardrobes need plinths and cornices. You get these in 3m lengths so you'll have cut them to size. Plinths are needed just to cover the front of wardrobes, but cornices cover both the front and sides of the unit - see diagram on the right.
You'll also want a cornice on the bridging units to match the finish of your wardrobes. You can also use plinths underneath the bridging units. But this is purely decorative and not necessary for construction.
Drawer plinths and feet
Drawers don't have cornices but do need plinths or feet. Plinths for drawers are pre-cut to size so that's a job saved. Or you can choose feet instead.
Handles
Now decide on your handles to complete your bedroom design. All drawers and doors are pre-drilled to accept handles, which come with their own screws.
Please see individual items for suitability.
A few things you should know...
- Contemporary cornices are easier to cut, mitre and fix when assembling yourself.
- Traditional cornices need an electric mitre or mitre block for cutting.
- Feet can't be used for wardrobes.
- Round feet have a height-adjustable feature and can be used on uneven flooring.
- Wardrobes need plinths and cornices.
- Drawers need plinths or feet.
Step 5 - Select your accessories
