Spiced apple crumble

Serves: 4-6


  • 140g porridge oats
  • 40g wholemeal flour
  • 25g ground almonds
  • 1 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 50g butter
  • 6 apples zest and juice
  • 1 large orange
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar


1. Heat oven to 180°C/160°C fan/gas 4.

2. Put the oats, wholemeal flour, ground almonds, cinnamon and nutmeg in a mixing bowl. Rub in the softened butter until the mixture resembles rough breadcrumbs.

3. Put the apples, orange zest and juice in a pan and cook for 10 mins until softened. Spoon into a baking dish, sprinkle with the sugar and scatter with the crumble mixture. Bake for about 40 mins until golden and crunchy. Serve with ice cream, cream or custard.
