Tools for the job:

Top tip: When doing any electrical work always follow current guidelines and product instructions very carefully.

Step 1: Measure an equal distance

Using the centre of the bed as starting point measure an equal distance either side to determine where your brackets need to go in order to support the cables.

Step 2: Drill a hole

Drill a hole in each bracket that’s large enough to thread the cable through without it being pulled through or crimped.

Step 3: Mount your brackets

Using screws and wall plugs, mount your brackets onto your bedroom wall.

Step 4: Spray your paint

Spray the bayonet holders with your chosen paint colour in a well ventilated area.

Top tip: Both black and metallic paints look good.

Step 5: Attach the plug

Attach the plugs to the end of your cable.

Step 6: Determine your hanging height

Thread the cables through the holes in your brackets, making sure you have enough slack for them to hang at the desired height.

Step 7: Add your bulbs

Attach the bulb bayonets and insert your bulbs (filament bulbs look especially good).
