How to upcycle a wooden chair

Menu

Upcycle a favourite chair that’s looking a bit tired to give it a new lease of life.

Step 1: Prepare surface

Sand the chair all over, this will create a good surface for the paint to adhere to.

Step 2: Protect surrounding wood

Brush wood wax onto any wood that’s not going to be painted to protect it.

Step 3: Cover parts

Use masking tape and newspaper to cover the parts of the chair you want to keep natural.

Top tip

The masking tape will help give you a nice straight edge.

Step 4: Apply primer

Paint primer onto the chair before you spray paint to create good base for the coloured paint to adhere to.

Step 5: Spray paint

Evenly spray on the colour in a well ventilated area, then allow the paint to dry fully, before gently removing the newspaper and masking tape.
