Creating a Child-friendly Christmas

Creating a child friendly Christmas

Kids adore Christmas, maybe even as much as we do! The build-up to the festive season can be as magical as the day itself with our top tips for creating a family Christmas with extra sparkle.

Trees for tiddlers

A small tree is perfect for little ones who enjoy getting creative. A tree in their bedroom, playroom or a corner of the living room will be well received.

Be brave and let them put whatever they want on their Christmas tree. Toys can make great decorations and if they’ve made their own decorations, this little tree is the perfect place for them. Supplement handmade creations with fun plastic decorations along with sparkling or paper garlands.

Let it snow

A real white Christmas isn’t very likely so make your own winter wonderland at home. Try stencilling pretty snowflakes onto windows using spray-on snow, it’s really effective. For an extra magical touch try sprinkling powdered carpet cleaner onto floors and using boots to create snowy Santa footprints from the door or chimney.

For something a touch more involved, think about making Christmas stockings using felt or fabric. Once you’ve made the basic shape the children can personalise them however they like.

Christmas cards are lovely to give and they’re even more special if you make them yourself. Buy pre-folded cards and arm yourself with pens, glitter and sequins to create unique cards that family and friends will love to receive.

Baking with kids

Lots of kids love to bake and Christmas is the ideal time to get them trying out something new. Mince pies are a great one to try if you’re looking to make something traditional. Or if you fancy making something familiar go for your usual cookie recipe and make it festive by cutting out the shapes with Christmas cookie cutters. Cupcakes are another popular treat and they’re even better when you decorate them with festive faces such as reindeers and snowmen.
