Refresh your outdoor space

Make the outdoors, yours / Refresh your outdoor space

Refreshing your garden can be done any time of the year, because it's all about making sure your outdoors is ready to be enjoyed throughout the warmer months. From tidying chores to the tasks you've meant to do, it's the little things that make a big difference to your garden and help it feel refreshed for spring and summer, and then into Autumn.

Create your great escape: Refresh your shed

Refresh your garden shed and style it your way with our range of cuprinol paint, furniture and those little finishing touches. Whether you want a man cave, a den for the kids or a relaxing summer house, spruce up your shed and create your great escape in the garden.

Why should I paint my shed?

Fences and sheds need protection against the elements. Over time, UV rays will grey your wood and water can cause it to split/crack.

Do I need to use special paint?

You should use a treatment or colour that is formulated for rough sawn timber. Most colours and stains have been specially developed to colour and protect sheds, fences and other garden wood. Garden colours will also give you a richer colour whilst allowing the natural texture of the wood grain to shine through.

How long will it last?

This depends on what you choose but most specialist paints are designed to last up to 5 years.

What tools do I need?

This is up to you and how much time you have. Painting by hand will take some time so you might want to consider using a pump or power sprayer (pumps are 5 times faster than using a brush and power sprayers are 10 times faster). If you do decide to use a sprayer, make sure you use a paint that has been formulated for use in that sprayer type (e.g. only Cuprinol Garden Shades or Cuprinol sprayable paint can be used in a Cuprinol sprayer).

  • Make a statement and paint your fence to match.

Pave the way to the perfect patio

Before you bring out the BBQ and garden furniture for those warmer days, make sure you get rid of all that algae, lichen and moss that's covering your patio.

For really manual work you can use a scrubbing brush, or skip the hard work with a pressure washer. Their powerful pump and narrow nozzle make pressure washers blast water in a forceful spray, which will remove dirt and grime quickly and use water more efficiently than a normal garden hose.

Which pressure washer do I need?

Most domestic pressure washers are electric and are available in a range of pressures called bars. Another key factor in determining how powerful the washer will be is the size of the motor (measured in watts). A medium pressure washer (110 Bar) or a high pressure washer (130 Bar) are ideal for cleaning patios.

Step 1

Clear the space completely, removing all furniture, containers and ornaments.

Step 2

Brush away any loose debris such as leaves and dirt.

Step 3

Connect the hose and ensure that water is running freely before you begin.

Step 4

Turn the pressure washer on and slowly move the wand over the surface of the patio, watching the dirt and grime disappear.

Top tips

  • Always wear safety goggles and use a special detergent to help remove the grime.
  • Take care when using the washer near plants.
