Stanley Sharpening System is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 9.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Could be clearer Sharpening chisels if one doesn't have an electric powered, bench mounted grindstone can be a problem and the only fall back position is an oil block like that provided by the Stanley Sharpening System. The product is exceedingly expensive for what it is and the diagram and instructions for how one uses the attachment into which you must secure your chisel could do with being much clearer. Were the instructions provided by one who has actually used this mechanism? Doesn't seem likely!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Useful device - poor instructions Its an essential device if you have a wood-plane because the blade needs to be kept really sharp if your plane is going to be any good. The angle of the edge is absolutely crucial and this enables you to achieve that. For a stone, a small metal gadget and a bottle of oil; it is a bit pricey, but the alternative is trying to achieve the right angle by guesswork. The thing that lets it down are the instructions, a pathetic set of almost meaningless drawings; no written explanation, which took me an age to be sure that I was doing the right thing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from excellent I have already saved a lot of potential expenditure by sharpening items i probably would have replaced by now.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good buy I bought a similar product from a rival chain that was of poor quality (difficult to adjust) and it fell apart quickly. The Stanley sharpener is, by contast, well built and easy to adjust. The product makes sharpening flat chisels and plane blades easy and accurate. It takes the guesswork out of getting the right angle. In my opinion it is a good buy, don't be fooled by the slightly cheaper imitations.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from As expected I needed to sharpen my jack plane properly. I had sharpened it, but I hadn't done it very well. This tool corrected my clumsiness and I now have a perfectly sharpened plane. This allows me to do better carpentry work in future.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from just no. The instructions were unclear. The stone was not level. The oil was ineffective. The angle guide is almost unusable. Loved it - sadly no. Much better sharpening systems out there.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not as expected I found the instructions unclear and the product, for the pice, could have been better.
