Rated 1 out of 5 by Anonymous Had to return, compleatly impractical, metal is to soft for the job, and is hard to keep on the immersion heater it self. Most immersion heaters will have been in situe for a number of years making them fairly solid. And require a box spanner to give better tension on removal as i found out. for get this tool. And homebase does not sell a box type spanner.

The spanner may be useful on new installations but for the removal of an old heater element, prior to replacement, it is about as much use as a chocolate fireguard! No strength, no use!

This design is very popular and can be found in most DIY outlets with plumbing items on their shelves. The spanner is well made and in most instances adequate for removing and installing Immersion Heater Elements fitted to domestic water heating tanks.
However, it is not so efficient when trying to remove the heating element when it has seized solid within the thread into which the element is fitted. The thickness of the spanner head profile is less than that fitted to the the immersion heater which continually resulted in the spanner easily slipping off the head of the immersion heater which is frustrating to say the least.
As a result, I returned the item to the store and found the solution to the problem at my local tool hire store who had a spanner which totally fitted the depth of the immersion heater head unit. This "old fashioned" design fully applied the turning force to the head resulting in the easy removal of the seized element on the first attempt.

Rated 1 out of 5 by hellerupian Very poor and not fit for purpose
Bought this to change the heating element in my hot water tank. However it was a poor fit and spanner kept slipping off the nut. When I did get eventually get it positioned firmly, the spanner handle warped under pressure and did not loosen the nut. In the end I had to buy a box spanner for the job and returned this one. Not fit for purpose. I suggest not wasting your time and money on it.

handle is not good for putting pressure through but if you wrap cloth around it to protect hand then the spanner deforms. Did not do the job, became so deformed had to go and buy box spanner........

This is a stunning product that does exactly what it says on the tin.
This is without doubt the best spanner I have ever purchased.
If you want ro remove or install an immersion heater then this is the spanner for you.
In short, if you do not buy this product then you are "madder than a bag of spanners", just like me.
Note : If you are not completely sure about what this product is for then employ a recognised professional (unlike me).
