I always use substitute turps or white spirit, but saw this on the shelf and thought i'd go green!!.....complete was of money in my professional opinion.....it may clean water based paints, but for get it for oil based. It splays the hairs once my vristle brushes are dried and doesn't remove no where near enough of the paint on the brush....

Rated 1 out of 5 by Occasional Wallpaperer! Not very good on conventional paints
I thought I'd put my Green Hat on and give this a try instead of White Spirit. It did warn that It might not like certain types of paint. For that, read ordinary gloss as it didn't clean my brushes at all. I imagine it's OK if you use similarly eco-friendly paint products from the outset?

This product was excellent at cleaning dried paint from wooden floors, and I was very pleasantly surprised how well it stripped old paint from hinges. I also found it was great at removing paint from my hands. It was NOT, however, very good at cleaning gloss paint from the brush.

Disappointing. Did not clean brushes as well as white spirit. I wish that I had bought white spirit instead but thought I would try and be environmentally friendly this time. It was a mistake.

I bought this product as I do not like to buy anything that could damage the environment. I first gave this ago with the brush that I painted my front door with. I painted in a gloss paint and after I had finished followed the instructions on the bottle stating to remove as much paint from the brush and then put into the Clean Spirit product. I repeated this twice but when my brush had dried the bristles were hard so brush unuseable. I tried again on another brush today but the same thing has happened with paint residue left on the bristles,.....another brush ruined. I would say buying this product is false economy. I do not know what type of paint this would work to remove as oil based are usually removed with white spirit and water based I have successfully cleaned with soap and water. I would not recommend this to anybody, just buy cheap white spirit.
