No on/off switch. You need to close the timer tappets to switch it off if say you are going away for a few days or on holiday, then reset the tappets when you return home. Lasted 13 months then the timer on/off failed, probably because it has only a 13amp switching capacity. Make sure you buy one with a 16amp capacity.

I replaced an existing burnt out Smiths timer which had pins.
This one was difficult to wire in as the immersion heater wires are heavier duty than the product allows for, particularly when you have 2 earth wires going into one little screw hole.
The screw hole for the outer case is in front of this wire position and you cannot see if the earth wires are in place. I had to take the whole timer off the wall again to wire it. And the wires do not have a clamp so the only thing holding the wires in place are the screw holes.
I thought it would be easy to use but if you override the timer, the heater stays on all the time until you reset it to timer. The Smiths one automatically went back to timer at the next "off" setting.
The only good feature is the red light that shows it is on.
I would not buy another one and I think the lack of a wire clamp is very poor and potentially unsafe. Really poor. I hope the buyers read this.

Rated 4 out of 5 by petethefeet Fiddly electric connection
Awkward to connect the electric connections. They are at bottom of the switch and small.
Larger connections would be better to match the wire size required for Immersion Heaters
Best connect before you fix the unit to the wall otherwise very difficult.
Operates ok though. and I cannot find another one for the price.

Bought to replace a digital timer on my mother-in-laws immersion heater as she was struggling with the original. Simple to fit, simple to use - job done. Inexpensive and reliable.

was basic but connections easy to get to although would be better if switch on the side was at the front somewhere as i had small space to fit it in so not easy to use switch as tight to other boxes

This easy to fit timer saves me having the gas boiler heat our water. It is much more economical to have the immersion heater heat our water (until we replace our decrepid boiler).
So, with its easy to use functions, I have saved some pennies and my water is hotter too!!

I purchased this item due to it's easy of use. It is so much easier to program than the more complicated eectronic type of timer. My problem with this item is that th build quality is not great. I had to have 3 units before I got one to work. The first one didn't work at all withth eclock not operating. The second unit had a cross treaded live terminal screw, the third one worked as required. Lets hope it stays working.
